Cordless Sims Beat The Cross APOOO Rating: 4.5 In Cordless Sims' Beat The Cross, Rico Adams a thirty-five year-old womanizing "wanksta" stumbles upon the opportunity of a lifetime. Suddenly the stakes have changed! Rico's criminal career advances a few notches and he has attracted undesired attention. There is nowhere to hide when it is raining enemies. Can Rico run with the big dogs or has he bitten off more than he can chew? This story literally starts with a bang! I enjoyed the style in which it is written immensely. It flows and transitions well. Mr. Sims jumps right in and gets to the heart of things. With the lack of fluff and unnecessary back-story, the reader will not miss a beat. "Beat The Cross" is well contemplated, plotted, and witty. There was one thing, which I will refer to as the characters felt hollow...a little off as if lacking in depth. They seemed apathetic even when dealing with those they cared about. However, I do not believe any of this can be contributed to back story, character building, or even the lack of physical descriptions; perhaps it is my own perception. Perhaps it was by design, after all the main characters are amoral personality types. In addition to the smooth transitions I really liked Mr. Sims' lack of speech indicators such as he said, she said. I did not notice he had not used them until I read some information provided in the advance reading copy but I know had he done so I would not have missed the "dialogue tags," as they are referred to in the book. "Beat the Cross" has great appeal. This is the first book in such a long time that I could not keep my hands off. This read is the first of a trilogy and is well worth the expense. Mr. Sims is so confident in his abilities not only is the first three chapters of "Beat the Cross" is made available in a downloadable format but so is the unrelated, "In Rare Form," in its entirety. For all of you thrill seeking suspense fiends and even those who are not, I highly recommend this read. Mr. Sims' wit and sheer joy of writing really shines through. Marian E. APOOO BookClub
