Bear and the Blade
Hidden gold. A druid's curse. A journey to the edge of the world.
Britannia. AD 396. Videricus lands on the mist strewn island at the edge of the world. Ordered by Stilicho to investigate the possibility of a buried hoard of gold on the holy Isle of Mona, he journeys west through a country that is losing touch from Rome.
The empire's coffers are depleted, and Stilicho is desperate. His army mutinous, enemies massing, he must secure wealth to pay his men. But the task he has set Videricus is not a simple one...
Small kingdoms are appearing in Britannia where there was once unity. Rival factions fighting for local supremacy. And so Videricus must battle his way across the hostile, war-torn land, all the while trying to keep a low profile.
If there is one man Stilicho knows will put a stop to his meddling in Britannia, it is Sixtus Victorinus, once a tribune of Rome. Can Videricus reach Mona without the veteran Victorinus discovering his plans? Or will the old warhorse have to march once more?
Victorinus may no longer fight for Rome. But for the future of his people, he will battle to the very end.
