Any severe childhood illness is extremely frightening and unsettling to children and parents. The Beads of Courage program attempts to reward and recognize children who have struggled with life threatening illnesses. This program rewards children with unique beads for every blood transfusion, pick line access, surgery, overnight hospital stay, PET scan, stem cell transplant, and round of chemotherapy that they experience. This book is in honor of my child, Connor Lane Hall and his experience with the Beads of Courage program during his year of chemotherapy at Children's of Birmingham hospital while he was battling life threatening brain cancer.
