Be a Changemaker: How to Start Something That Matters

By Laurie Ann Thompson

Book Overview

Empower yourself in today's highly connected, socially conscious world as you learn how to wield your passions, digital tools, and the principles of social entrepreneurship to affect real change in your schools, communities, and beyond.

At age eleven, Jessica Markowitz learned that girls in Rwanda faced barriers to attending school--and turned her concern into action by helping create Richard's Rwanda. As a high school sophomore, Zach Steinfeld put his love of baking to work by starting the Baking for Breast Cancer Club.

You don't have to wait until you're an adult to make a difference.

Whether you want to address an issue in your school, strengthen your community, support a cause you care about, or tackle a bigger problem, Be a Changemaker gives you the practical tools to turn your passion into action. Through inspiring profiles of young changemakers, step-by-step exercises, and approachable advice, you'll learn how to take an idea and build it into something that can create meaningful impact.

Discover how to research the issues you care about, develop a plan, build a team, find mentors and supporters, raise funds, organize events, spread your message, and create lasting change. Drawing on the principles of social entrepreneurship, Be a Changemaker helps young people develop the confidence and real-world skills to move from identifying a problem to becoming part of the solution.

Your age doesn't determine your ability to make an impact. Start where you are, use what you have, and discover just how much change you can create.
