When in October 1990 at the age of 85, BB (Denys Watkins-Pitchford) died he was generally recognised as the grand old man of English countryside writing. He wrote about travel, fishing and about wildlife both from a shooting man's point of view and increasingly as a dedicated conservationist. BB the writer and professional artist is well known but less well known is BB the man. The book is not in any sense a biography. Instead it is an attempt to recall BB's own memories of his life as well as the memories of some of those who knew him.
