Shaz Tamkanat is one of the renowned poets of Hyderabad Deccan. The bridge built by Shaz Tamkanat between traditional and modern poetry is itself a mirror of an era. While the sorrows of his personal life are evident in his ghazals and poems, his sorrow is revealed as a general experience of the times. Shaz Tamkanat has not tied the traditional themes of ghazals and does not even use traditional metaphors with traditional connotations. There is no attempt to tie the theme with the help of rhyme in his ghazals.

شاذ تمکنت حیدرآباد دکن کے نامی گرامی شعرائے کرام میں شمار ہوتے ہیں۔ روایتی اور جدید شاعری کے درمیان جس پل کی تعمیر شاذ تمكنت نے کی وہ خود میں ایک دَور کا آئینہ دار ہے۔ ان کی غزلوں اور نظموں میں جہاں ذاتی زندگی کے دکھ درد ظاہر ہیں، وہیں ان کا دکھ، زمانہ کے عمومی تجربہ کے طور پر ظاہر ہوتا ہے۔ شاذ تمکنت ایک نظم نگار شاعر کی حیثیت سے ابھرے تھے لیکن جلد ہی منفرد غزل گو کی حیثیت سے بھی انہوں نے ادبی دنیا میں اپنی شناخت قائم کی۔ شاذ تمکنت نے غزل کے روایتی مضامین نہیں باندھے ہیں اور روایتی استعاروں کو روایتی تلازموں کے ساتھ بھی نہیں برتا ہے۔ ان کی غزل میں قافیے کے سہارے مضمون باندھنے کی کوشش بھی نہیں ملتی۔
