When eclectic beach town Shell Isle starts attracting some curious doings, cousin sleuths Page Wright and Betsy Ross find themselves doing some eavesdropping. Savoring lunch at a sidewalk bistro, Page gets her first 'inkling' that trouble's looming as she observes a nearby seedy-looking man pass a pistol under a table to her dripping-in-jewels neighbor Catherine Lange. The following evening, Page gets another nudge leading her and Betsy on an evening stroll only to find Catherine's lifeless body washed up on the beach. Now, discovering which of numerous suspects most wished Catherine gone requires Betsy and Page to activate their spy skills and set some quirky bait, careful to avoid becoming victims themselves. Page must also convince a tall, dark and too handsome undercover agent, Steve Tanner, to share information, and see her inklings as critical in cracking the case. Of course, this is all assuming that she survives Betsy's daily culinary debacles, spiced to ignite any dinner plate, along with her cousin's ongoing pitch for a new life adventure as full-time Shell Isle residents.
