By John W. Urban and John W Urban

Book Overview

Battle Field And Prison Pen is a memoir written by John W. Urban, originally published in 1882. The book describes Urban's experiences during the American Civil War, in which he served as a Union soldier. Urban recounts his time on the battlefield, including the battles of Bull Run and Fredericksburg, as well as his experiences as a prisoner of war in Confederate prisons. He was imprisoned three times and spent a total of 18 months in captivity. Urban provides vivid descriptions of the conditions in the prison camps, including the lack of food and medical care, and the constant threat of disease and death. He also describes the psychological toll of imprisonment, including the fear and despair that he and his fellow prisoners experienced. The book provides a firsthand account of the horrors of war and the brutal treatment of prisoners, and is an important historical document for anyone interested in the Civil War.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
