Battle of Berlin

The 80th anniversary of the battle to capture the capital of Hitler's Third Reich falls in May 2025. To mark this event we describe the armies, commanders and equipment used in the battle by the German defenders and by the attacking Soviet Red Army during the Battle of Berlin. Then we chart the course of battle itself and look at its aftermath in the Cold War, as well as providing a guide on how to visit many of the surviving landmarks in the city. Berlin was the climactic battle of World War Two in Europe, that set the scene of the confrontation between East and West that only truly ended in 1989 with the collapse of the Berlin Wall.
