Earth's first spaceships to distant planets were considered "beachheads."Their landings were led by U.S. Marines, as usual, the first to land on an unknown or hostile environment. The first planet landed on was led by a platoon of Recon Marines. The were not expecting to meet sapient beings, much less any that were hostile, but they had prepared for the unexpected.Fortunately, the first meeting was with Sabretooths. They proved to be good friends. This was not the case with the giant rats, lizard men and Cossacks and the Marines were soon fighting for their lives.Amid the fighting the Marines had to provide security for the colonists. They were populating the planet so its resources could be used for further exploration of distant planets. The Marines were sorely tested fighting off the lizard men while maintaining security for the colonists.
