Battle Beyond the Stars is good for what’s alien you.

Years after “Star Wars” (1977), we get a hokey clone with a young farmer (Richard Thomas) who sets out to recruit mercenaries as (Robert Vaughn) to defend his peaceful planet, which is under threat of invasion by an evil tyrant ( John Saxon) and his co-tyrants. One of my favorite defenders is Sybil Danning, who plays a “Little” hotty. You will recognize many of the stereotypes from “Star Wars,” as it looks like they included a bevy of out-of-work actors. Special effects are lacking believability. Roger Corman can do no better. This story, even though played over the top, still has that Joseph Campbell hero’s journey scenario.
