Bathsheba's Responsibility in Light of Narrative Analysis

Interpreters assess Bathsheba in various ways, including: (1) viewing her as immoral and complicit, (2) viewing her as a reformed sinner, and (3) viewing her as a victim. A careful look at the biblical text can help elucidate the David-and-Bathsheba narrative, specifically the responsibility of Bathsheba, and demonstrate that the biblical narrative places the blame fully on King David. Interpretations of the narrative may affect ministry among victims of sexual abuse today. While laws exist to protect the abused, some female victims still receive partial blame in situations where a spiritual leader is fully at fault.
