In 2007, just in time for his 70th birthday, Duncker & Humblot published the "New Aphorisms on State and Law, Individual and Community" by constitutional law professor Detlef Merten under the title "Basta" 10 years after the publication of "Kurzzum Punktum" (In Brief). Detlef Merten, born in 1937, studied law, political science, and economics in Berlin and Graz. He received his doctorate in 1963 (Dr. rer. pol.), his doctorate in 1969 (Dr. jur.), and his habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) from the Free University of Berlin in 1971. From 1972, he held a full professorship at the Speyer School of Administrative Sciences (Chair of Public Law), and from 1983, he was a member of the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2006, on the occasion of his retirement, a research symposium was held by the German Research Institute for Public Administration Speyer, in which the core areas of his research and teaching were discussed in detail. This anthologylike numerous other works he has authored or editedwas published by Duncker & Humblot under the title "Freedom, the Rule of Law, and the Welfare State in Europe," edited by S. Magiera and K.-P. Sommermann. Known as an author and editor of academic works and for his work as co-editor of "Schriften zum Europaische Recht" (Writings on European Law), "Beitrage zum Beamtenrecht" (Contributions to Civil Service Law), and as the person responsible for the "Schriftenreihe der Hochschule Speyer," "Basta" (Publication Series of the Speyer University of Applied Sciences) reveals a different side to Detlef Merten's work to his readers.
