Basketball Legend in the Making

By: Jones, Ricarlos

The Memphis Parks Literacy Series

Step into the imaginations of young storytellers from the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. This inspiring 10-book series features original works written by inner-city youth who turned the tables-this time, they are the authors. With the encouragement of Ms. Ericia and the Memphis Parks Literacy Program, these talented kids captured their voices and visions on the page.

From heartfelt reflections on life in the projects to thrilling tales of ghosts who save the day, these stories are full of heart, humor, and hope.

For DC-and everyone who believes in me.

At just 10 years old, I'm already a baller on and off the court. From kickball to soccer, I've played it all-but basketball is where I shine. When I'm dribbling, passing, and scoring with my team, I feel like I'm shooting for the stars. Layups, trick moves, and teamwork? I've got it all.

Win or lose, I play with heart-and I always try to lift up my teammates. Because being a basketball legend isn't just about skill-it's about hustle, practice, and believing in yourself no matter what. With my family cheering from the stands and dreams of joining the Memphis Grizzlies one day, I know I'm on my way.

This is my story. This is my dream. This is what it means to be a basketball living legend.
