After buying tons of "workbooks" for my son who I believe is very smart but simply doesn't "produce" in the school setting, I came across this series. Although he is in third grade, I felt that he had never mastered the "basics" and that this prevented him from succeeding. I decided to start with Grade 1 and let him achieve immediate success consistently with work below his grade level. After he got through that level pretty easily, I purchased this, Basic Skills Curriculum, Grade 2. The perforated pages make it easy to pull out a few pages from each section - Math, Phonics, Reading and Writing (all skills he must master). I then use a 3-hole punch and place the pages for the day in a looseleaf binder. He is surprisingly cooperative. I believe the reason for this is a combination - the work is challenging; but because it is repetitive, he can build on the skills he's succeeded with already and gain confidence to achieve more. I believe this series is an incredible value for the money as compared to many other individual-subject workbooks. Additionally, there's a CD-Rom to use in conjunction with your computer. Although it is suprisingly Mac-compatible, unfortunately, the fine print tells you inside the book that it won't work with G3 or newer processors. This was a very minor problem as I bought the book for the worksheets, not for the CD.
