You really can learn a craft from a book.

At least basketry from this how-to. Many black-and-white pictures and diagrams explain how to manipulate materials by hand and produce a decent basket. Then we take it further with natural dyes. And what is this? Lids and handles. It looks like many Christmas presents this year. Contents: 1. Excellent Beginner Book

This is the best book I've seen for someone who has never made a basket. It has many pictures of each stage, and very clear instructions.
