The most up-to-date, comprehensive, and authoritative pharmacology text in health medicine--enhanced by a new full-color illustrations

A Doody's Core Title for 2019

Organized to reflect the syllabi in many pharmacology courses and in integrated curricula, Basic & Clinical Pharmacology, Fourteenth Edition covers the important concepts students need to know about the science of pharmacology and its application to clinical practice. Selection of the subject matter and order of its presentation are based on the authors' many years' experience in teaching this material to thousands of medical, pharmacy, dental, podiatry, nursing, and other health science students.

To be as clinically relevant as possible, the book includes sections that specifically address the clinical choice and use of drugs in patients and the monitoring of their effects, and case studies that introduce clinical problems in many chapters. Presented in full color and enhanced by more than three hundred illustrations (many new to this edition), Basic & Clinical Pharmacology features numerous summary tables and diagrams that encapsulate important information.

perfect for my needs

The content of this book is well-suited to my needs. Although it is smaller (and much less expensive) than Goodman and Gillman's, it usually contains at least the level of detail that I am looking for, and sometimes more. When things I need to know are not covered, I look to research articles and reviews in the literature to find what I need, because they are generally the kinds of things that are not covered in any of the pharmacology textbooks. I am sure that for some it does pay off to have a fatter pharmacology reference on hand, but for me Katzung's Basic and Clinical Pharmacology has been a great choice.

best practical pharm text out there

This book has been a great reference for me as I've gone through medical school. Clear, well written, and with excellent illustrations, the information is easily accessible and quite practical. It may be a little advanced for beginner students, but it's an absolute must have reference for someone with a need to know pharmacology.

The "Bible" for Medical school pharmacology

Katzung is brilliant. This text was an absolute bible for my med school pharmacology course & on rotations. If it's not in the Katzung book you probably don't need to know it. An absolute must to do well on the boards.

The Best Single Volume On Pharmacology

This is a wonderful book. Now in its seventh edition, it includes great details on physiological mechanisms. Highly recommended, even over Goodman and Gilman.

This is the greatest book for Pharmacology!!!!!!

This book was my bible for Pharmacology. Even though "Goodman and Gillman" contains everything there is to know about the subject, which medical school student needs to know all of that. The book first starts each chapter with a review of fundamental physiology of the normal body. Next it describes the drug and its effects on the body. Next comes the clincal pharamcology of the drugs. The understanding of pharmacology from reading this book is unparalleled.
