Ted Burda has written the only instructional hitting text I have read twice. He does an excellent job in the small manual he published. One photo in particular is great as it illustrates the "axe-cutting" type motion used in most close (or center-in) pitches you get thrown. I suggest you read this with an open mind because it is a little different. He is not Tony Gwynn or Pete Rose, but his explanation of hitting is one of the best I have ever read. Many times, in books written by HOF (hall of fame) or great players, you get more of the "work hard" sentences and that type of advice. Though working hard is fine to say, it does not quite help you in practical terms. We all want to work hard, but Mr. Burba points you in the right direction. This book, though small in page count, is fantastic. At times he is precise in his descriptions of how to execute the swing technique. Personally, I would like to meet this author, and discuss some of the accounts, and pick up as much material as possible. He is knowledgeable about hitting, and would be a welcome instructor on any team I owned. This is a great book. If you ever watched Craig Biggio swing, you will notice this book is right on. guy airey, Feb. 2008
