Like any paradise, the world of baseball can be explored in two ways: a fast-paced whirlwind of adventure, or a relaxing, life-changing deep dive. Baseball in Paradise, uniquely, takes both approaches.
First I received this book as a winner of Readerview.com giveaway. I'm a big baseball fan, a trip to see my team play in every stadium is part of my Bucket List. Ive been to Spring Training several years and now that I'm living in Florida it's a yearly event. With that said I was excited to get this book. It was a unique manner in writing the book. The first portion describing Bradenton and the author's decision on what to write about. I found the history of Bradenton as far as its connection with Baseball interesting. The secondish half of the book traveled through the years. It was different than any other baseball book I've read but it did bring back memories. He would start with a year (say 1956) and we would get a brief "what's happening in the world" for that year than a synopsis of what the team that spent Spring Training in Bradenton did that season. A brief detailing of how the team did as well as some of the players. The final portion of the books was detailing the Pirates as they play in Bradenton. They aren't my team but I did have some memories of players in the past. I would have liked to have more of the spring training activities. Stories about the players and their time in Bradenton. If you are a baseball fan, especially a Pirates fan this is a book for you.
