Baseball: America's Game: Let's Play Catch
Some things have a way of finding us again and again throughout our lives. For Kenneth J. Kurt, D.O., one of those things has always been baseball.
It began in the years after World War II with a ball, a glove, and his dad standing across from him. As life moved on, the boy with the glove grew up, built a career, raised a family, and watched children and grandchildren of his own grow. Baseball wasn't always at the center of life-but somehow, it kept finding its way back.
It was there with the Milwaukee Braves and Hank Aaron, at County Stadium and with the Brewers. It was there when his sons and grandsons picked up gloves. And nearly nine decades after those first games of catch, it returned once more through a young ballplayer named Mike.
Mike's season with the Hitters brought road trips, home runs, a championship, friendships, and one frightening injury that reminded everyone that the people surrounding the game matter far more than the score.
Let's Play Catch isn't simply a book about baseball. It's about growing up and growing older, fathers and sons, grandparents and grandchildren, and looking back at 89 years to realize that some of life's most treasured moments were the simple ones.
Years pass.
Children grow up. Ballparks change. Another generation takes the field.
But somewhere, a child still picks up a baseball. Someone who loves him puts on a glove.
One throws. The other catches it.
And somehow, all those years don't seem quite so far apart.
"Let's play catch."
