Only Book I Needed for a 780

Ok, I know some people are shooting for perfect 800s, but I was scoring in like the 600s on my first practice test, and with a little help from this book, I achieved a 780. Sure, there are some errors in here, but it's like that with almost all of the prep book companies out there. I believe it's just something you have to get used to. The questions in this book are definitely tough-- tougher than the real thing, in my opinion. But that just helps you over-prepare and score higher! Kaplan and PR's practice questions seemed a little oversimplified to me. Barron's, in the end, was the way to go. It's the perfect size too, neither too big nor too small.

Great Review, Great Tests, Great Result!

I took the SAT II Math IIC twice, once sophomore year and again my junior year. The first time, I used Kaplan only and scored only 640. Since this was an egregious result, I decided to take it again the next year, except with more preparationg and rigorous studying. I bought the Barron's book and took advantage of its 4 tests (hard questions but great practice). The second time, I got a 770, which is considered a TOP score for the SAT II Math IIC. From what I've discerned from all these review books, Kaplan is too easy, Princeton Review is just right but not particularly challenging, and Barron's is much harder. But don't we all want to practice hard questions than easy ones for a test?

Math Level 2 bible...

If you're planning to major in anything remotely math related, chances are, you have to take the SAT Math Level 2 exam. There are lots of books on the market, but I think Barron's is by and large the best resource to prepare if you're dead set on getting a (near) perfect score. Why? It covers all the material you'll ever need in excrutiating depth. This may not appeal to everyone, but it's better to have everything there for those who want it, than to skimp on the meat and potatoes required for the 800. Also, the practice tests are harder than the real thing! This is good! If you can master doing well on the exams provided in here, the real thing should be a piece of cake. It's important to note that having harder questions forces the development of math maturity and reasoning skills, so even if the questions aren't the same, the mental workout you get is more than worth it. (Plus, when you realize the real test is so much eaiser than this, you'll be relieved) This book isn't for everyone, however. If you're serious about getting an 800, this book is what you need. For those aiming for low-to-mid 700s, I'd reccomend the Princeton Review, as its tests are more representative of the real thing, and the material covered is less in depth, but presented in a "friendly" way. I reccomend to everyone, though to pair Barron's with the official SAT math practice test book as well to gauge your performance on the real thing. While your scores on Barron's may suck, you'll feel pleasantly surprised when you ace the CB tests! (but save those for the very end) So, yeah. It's $10, and it'll help you ace the SAT math 2. What more could you want?

Best one you can have for practice

I totally disagree with everyone here. This is the one I used for SAT math level 2, and I got 800 on the test. I have to say that if I had not used this book, I would have only gotten about 700 or even lower on the test. What helped me to bring up my score is this book. Most questions in the book are definitely harder than those on the real test, but the book has the same level of hard questions appeared on the real test. If you want to shoot for 750+ on the test, you should choose this one; otherwise, use Princeton review or something else.

Great Book for a Great Score!

This book is difficult, WAY more difficult than the actual test. Expect to get 50-100 points more on your actual test. And as the above poster said, it has MANY errors. Sometimes the answers and their choices don't match, and your score comes out wrong. Why, then, did I give it four stars? Because it has GREAT tactics! Face it, on the Level 2, your greatest problem is timing. This book contains various calculator techniques for almost every type of question that can reduce the time it takes for you to do most difficult questions to less than half the time! For example, on the SAT on June 7, 2008, there was this question about statistics. 20 students in a class, each has a different number of calculators at home. Find the average no. of calculators per student. If you'd done this manually, it would take you about 2 minutes. If you'd done this with a calculator, you'd be able to do it in less than 30 seconds. This book teaches very little about actual math, but it really teaches you how to effectively use your calculator on the SAT IIC. Lastly, as mentioned above, the tests at the end ARE very difficult, but they do help you out a lot. Help you improve your timing, help you solve more questions, and help you become more confident in the end: Just remember that a 750 on Barron's probably means an 800 on the actual test.
