A delight for the senses, a treat for the soul for young and old
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
While I have not had the privilege of sharing this children's book with a child, as an adult, I can fully appreciate the delightful poetry and expressive illustrations. Captures the details of a child's experience in bare feet with familiar sensory images, poetic economy, and pleasing rhythms. Arrangement and color of print on the page becomes part of the image and contributes to the poetry. Illustrations are rich watercolors which express movement and light. No doubt a true poet and a fine watercolor artist are at work here.
A wonderful ankle-high view of the world!

My two daughters and I love this delightful book by Ms. Stefi Weisburd. Her quirky insights into the world, as viewed through and ankle-high perspective are funny and light-hearted. My girls especially love the poem which describes shoes as "apartments for rent." We all look forward to more gems from this wonderful poet!

Barefoot: Poems for Naked Feet is a lighthearted children's picturebook poetry collection celebrating the joy of going without shoes or socks. Prizewinning poet Stefi Weisburd and "Highlights for Children" magazine illustrator (among her many other credentials) Lori McElrath-Eslick combine their talents in a collection that's pure fun to read or share aloud. "What's Afoot at the Beach": Hot! Hot! Hot! / I try ballerina toes, / quick-stepping heels; / I try to imagine ice, / but nothing douses / the sand's / firecracker spice! // Bulldozer feet / crack / the salty crust, / plow roads, / pave / muddy mortar / and unearth / a quarter.
