finally I get CCR!

Having been a fan of John Fogerty for years, I finally understand why the band seemed so enigmatic back in the sixties/seventies-- because they didn't have proper handling! But, if they'd had a larger label and a real manager -- they might not have had quite the creative freedom. Or, to put it another way, John Fogerty might not have had that same amount of creative freedom -- which ran its course anyway, because the other band members eventually ran out of patience with his dominance of the group. And yet, thank goodness he DID dominate, because he is a creative genius and nothing less than a wonder of the world, when it comes to his musical genre. I suppose he was destined to live out the blues, one way or another. What a treat to finally get the scoop on CCR, how they met in Jr. High, how John C. Fogerty bought his first guitar, how they stayed together through difficult early days, and when they finally got the freedom to change the band's name (read the book!) they emerged on the AM radio scene, fully formed and seasoned performers. But you KNEW, like I always knew, nobody could invent music like that without a deep history, especially during their youth. You KNEW John Fogerty was different from all the other pop performers at the time. You KNEW they were special then, and they are just as special now -- and so is John Fogerty, today. I'm so glad he has found his way back to making records and performing.

CCR Revisited

Best book i ever read about CCR. This author did his homework. It was very entertaining. Once i started reading the book, i couldn't put it down.

BAD MOON RISING

If one is a Creedance fan this is the book for them even if it is unauthorized. Being such an ardent fan of John Foggerty I was truly disappointed that he was such a "butt-head" when his brother was dying. It was fascinating reading into the history of one of the greatest groups ever assembled - their music will live on forever!!! Darlene C.

A Great Book

Let me start by saying that this book is definitely a must have for any CCR/John Fogerty fan, or for anyone who wants to read "the saddest story in Rock And Roll". I just want to set the record straight for all of the reviewers that seem pissed off that there wasn't an interview with John in the making of the book: John wanted nothing to do with the book. Hank B. didn't just go and interview Stu and Doug and just leave John out of it. John didn't want to be interviewed for the book. And it's not like Stu and Doug do all of the talking in the book. There are tons of quotes from interviews that John has done over the years. Also, I don't really see how this book seems so one-sided to some people. When certain incidents are brought up in the book, both sides of the story are told. Let me just end by saying that this is one of the greatest biographies I've ever read.

Just When You Thought it Was Safe to Start Chooglin' Again!

This is a thorough, outstanding work of investigation. It unfolds a story that's bound to surprise and astonish all serious Creedence fans no matter how well informed they may think they are. CCR is the only major Rock 'n Roll act that all but vanished withouth a single explanation after just three years of hits in a row. Its leader John Fogerty spent the most part of the next 20 years in seclusion marred by litigation. In spite of all that, Creedence music has reached mythic proportions. This book says why. After finishing it, you'll never listen to CCR in the same way anymore. Be prepared!
