may be the best

I love the Vicki Lucci character; this may just be the best of the books (4 so far) that I ahve read. The plot kept my turning pages, the characters are engaging, Vicki's job is very interesting. -- really enjoy this series.

Bad Blood = Good Fun

It's hard not to simply love Suzanne Proulx's lead character, Vicky Lucci (pronounced "Lucky"). She's a smoking, hard-drinking, over-educated, overworked, and underpaid risk manager for her local hospital. With dual degrees in nursing and law, Vicky is well-liked personally and loathed professionally, especially by her pack-mule of a boss, Jette. While dealing with an emergent merger with an HMO, a plague of mismatched blood in the bank is bringing the hospital down. Is it an accident? Of course not! Someone is tainting and switching ordered blood for that of the wrong type. But to what end? Revenge against the hospital by a former patient? Is an outraged employee trying to stop the merger? Soon, Vicky is on the trail, determined to resolve if this is a case of personal revenge or a design to effect the hospital's bottom line.Vicky is a nice departure from most medical thriller series heroines. She nicely combines the toughness of Cornwell's Dr. Kay Scarpetta and the ascerbic wit of Heron's Adele Monserrat, RN. A wonderful new series for devoted fans of the genre!

Fun and sassy

Suzanne Proulx leads he readers on an exciting romp through the fictional halls of the Montmorency Hospital as Vicky Lucci confronts blackmailing employees, stray gang members, dead bodies, (some more dead than others) and one rotten soul who wants to stop a hospital merger anyway possible. People who know hospitals say it's so true to life, it's downright scary. I can hardly wait for the next chapter in Vickie's not so "lucky" life.

good medical thriller

As Denver's Montmorency Hospital's Risk Manager, Victoria Lucci knows that every day is an adventure. However, the past few days have gone way beyond simple adventure. It starts with wrong blood being given to a patient who consequently dies. This is the second incident with mismatched blood types in the past few months. Following both occasions, the staff checked and double- checked procedures to insure no repeat incident. However, a third incident occurs within days of the second one. This time the media knew about it before the Victoria or top management hears about the latest error. In addition to the blood transfusion problems, an inventory of drugs reports a shortfall that proves theft is rampant. Finally, the father of a newborn notices a corpse in the parking garage. An elderly person apparently has been dead for a couple of days. She advises the interested parties how to deal with their segment of the major and minor crisis hitting the hospital. Victoria also begins her own investigation, wondering if someone on the hospital staff has turned into a mercy angel of death.Fans of medical thrillers will take great pleasure from Suzanne Proux's debut novel, BAD BLOOD. The story line is fast-paced as the lead protagonist deals with a wide degree of incompetence. Victoria is a wonderful amateur sleuth, who takes the ultimate risk by seeking out the identity of a killer who might just make her the next victim. The support cast brings readers an insider's look at what happens in a hospital. The entertaining thriller will leave fans clamoring for Ms. Proux to produce more works starring Victoria.Harriet Klausner
