Background Noise: A Poem About Bigotry

This poem provides an example, of what it is like, to not be born white, in America.

The days following the death of George Floyd have been difficult for so many, including my wife Gloria, as once more America looked at the harsh damage done by racism in this country.

Gloria has been quite agitated as memories and emotions, suppressed and dormant, have risen again to the surface. She asked me to write a poem to help express what was going on with her and in the world beyond.

This poem is my response to her request. I have used several incidents or moments from her life, a mere slice, to make this, in part, a biographical poem...
