Book Overview

It is spring in the mountains of Alaska, and a female Dall's sheep is born on the high cliffs, sheltered from predators and the worst of the blowing snow. The lamb has a weak leg, but her heart is strong, and she scrambles over the cliffs after her mother and seeks out the company of other lambs that have also settled in the mountain meadow. Over the short summer months, the lamb will need experience in running up the cliffs when grizzlies and other predators make their way to the meadow. Only then will she be safe from harm as she continues to grow to adulthood in the cold months ahead.

A wonderfully educational series.

Part of the "Nature Babies" series by the prolific team of author Aubrey Lang and wildlife photographer Wayne Lynch, Baby Mountain Sheep is a children's picturebook featuring gorgeous color photography of mountain sheep and amazing true facts about their life cycle. Following a precocious wild baby sheep with a bad leg and her family, Baby Mountain Sheep tells of sheep social life, the efforts they take to avoid dangerous predators, and much more. An index and a "Did You Know?" section of wildlife facts for parents and teachers round out this latest contribution to a wonderfully educational series.
