In February 2018, Douglas C. Murray began photographing New York City's Financial District following the Dow Jones Industrial Average breaking 25,000 points. Inside the New York Stock Exchange there was a raucous affair, but faces in the neighborhood streets carried few expressions beyond the squinting required of downtown pedestrians in the hard winter wind and sunlight. Seeing this as a form of warning, the photographs then escape to softer landscapes and faces elsewhere - a series of sometimes close and sometimes anonymous encounters in the karst mountains of the Vietnamese countryside, golden sunlight of the southern hemisphere, and the familial streets of Lisbon. Away From the Forum captures, through image and text, what it is to leave home in a hurry and return to find it changed.Douglas C. Murray is an American photographer born in 1993.
