Avidya

Robert Jestice is one of many people who have struggled with addiction. He makes no claim whatsoever about being "gifted" or special in any way. This book is what appears to be an obvious reality to the thoughtful person who isn't afraid to look beneath the surface. Avidya is the fictional, non-fiction story about thinking for ourselves and, even more, feeling for ourselves. Robert Jestice takes a point blank approach to some of the modern problems of the cult mentality while leaving no impression that all hope is lost. Against all odds, through sobriety, modern materialism, and even a cult weekend in Oakland, the author has found his way to part of what most of us are searching for from the very beginning: Truth. Taking a more philosophical approach to the common problems of addiction, sheep mentality, and simple brain-washing, this story, or lesson is meant for whoever is willing to take the time to read between the lines of their own lives. There is nothing more hopeless than not knowing who we are and, at the same time, hoping that another person can make us whole. There is nothing more terrifying than not knowing if our feelings and thoughts are justified and always hoping that others agree, or at least don't condemn us for our differences. With a little courage, and the right guidance, the path to our individual Light is not as difficult, nor is it as scary as one might think. The only diseases that actually center in the mind itself are ignorance, vanity, and shallowness.
