Avalon Blue, past sixty, hides the secret spiritual initiations that have held her hostage, forcing her to remain a loner traveling the world in eccentric clothes of her own design. However, everything changes when Avalon unexpectedly arrives in Winter's Lee and flings herself into their arms like a muddy, squalling little messenger, bringing with her an emotional, imaginative journey involving Shamans, animal totems, tattoos, and a mysterious island, disrupting their sedate lives. Avalon is hiding the animal tattoos she received there under a clothing line she developed to conceal them. She lives a sad, lonely life as a runaway hermit and accepts that her Spirit teachers have tasked her to tend to her life lessons in an indigenous way that might raise questions in other cultures.
