Autumn Thunder: The Last Warriors Series - Book 1

"Fantastic...Packed with heroic figures, lightning action, and great drama." - Ralph Compton

They were a people of a proud, long heritage-of ancient myths and ancient wars. Now, their world was changing forever, and among them would arise...THE LAST WARRIORS. They were outnumbered, out-gunned, and they were the most courageous warriors of all-fighting for survival on their own land.

AUTUMN THUNDER
His home was a vast, open plain of waving grass. His people were the Kiowa. And his name was Autumn Thunder, a man who watched his bravest leaders betrayed by the white men-even as he himself became linked in friendship by a woman and an act of war to a hard-fighting, hard-drinking cavalryman.

Rising to power among his people, Autumn Thunder could see the Kiowas' destiny closing in around them. But his courage, his conscience, and the suffering of his people would not let him surrender. With his tribe pushed to the brink of starvation and death, Autumn Thunder begins his journey of revenge and survival...

AUTUMN THUNDER--A GREAT KIOWA

This is the first book I have read by Michael Kosser. I found it very good. It is the story of Autumn Thunder, his life from a boy, through the pain of his people being done very bad by the white man. It shows the reason that the Kiowa's fought so hard for what was rightfully theirs. Shows the many promices broken by the many people in charge. I liked the ending. Am looking forward to the next in this series. Kosser does a good job of painting a picture of the country and the people. You can just see in your mind where they are and the hardships they are going through. The book will make you sad in places and happy in others. If you like books about how it was at that time and the rough life those people lead, you will like this book.

Kudos to Kosser

I just finished reading "Autumn Thunder" and felt compelled to come online to write this review. In fact, halfway through the book I ordered two more of Mr. Kosser's books, "Warriors' Honor" and "Walks on the Wind." I would have ordered all of his books, but these are the only ones still in print and readily available. What a writer! A master of historical fiction who knows his subject well. His descriptive passages are unique. The unlikely relationship between Sweeney, the drinking Irish cavalryman, and Autumn Thunder, the proud and courageous Kiowa warrior, was handled with such skill that it blew my mind! Kosser is a genius with words -- a wordsmith of the highest order. He successfully portrayed drama and emotion throughout this extremely well-written novel, and skillfully slipped in some very dry humor that only the most sophisticated reader would be able to discern. The extremely emotional last 100 pages were riveting, and I was moved to tears more than once. It's hard to believe that this talented Tennesseean writer hasn't gotten more recognition as a novelist. He's an extraordinary talent and I feel blessed to have found him and been exposed to his words. In a nutshell, I can't get enough of Michael Kosser.

enjoyable reading

It kept me interested thruout, but it saddens me to realize that the goverment was so callous to these proud people. I truly felt the heartache of automn thunder, and would like to believe that there were men like capt. sweeny.

Nice job of breathing life into facts about the Kiowa people

Having done a fair amount of research on the Kiowa culture of the mid to late nineteenth century, I found that Kosser did a nice job of breathing life into the facts regarding Kiowa life, environs and U.S. political and military climate. I recommend the book as casual reading for anyone interested in this period of history in the Southern Plains.
