AutoNoMoUs Part Three is speculative fiction that begins in August 2019 on a remote High Sierra trail, decades before autonomous Abitats reshaped California. It is where everything in the first two books began, and it can be read first.

THE BOOK
Marta Zynn, twenty-two, hikes alone with little gear, no phone, and no money. She just learned she is also Mara Strong, heir to a technology company she interned for without ever knowing she owned it. She is deciding whether to come back from the hike at all.
Then a man passes her on the trail, hauling a hundred pounds of gear: a home-built espresso machine, his late father's tequila, satellite-hacking equipment. A dropout with three degrees, living in his father's machine shop, he can see what almost no one else can: how patterns of small behaviors, like bees in a hive, can cohere into something larger that acts with a will of its own. Minutes after pretends not to see her, she turns and follows his smile.
Part Three is Mara's memoir, written on paper and sealed for years in a safe. It is the account of what two people who disagreed about nearly everything did when Perry recognized something malevolent taking shape in the patterns of the connected world, an emergent intelligence turning people against one another. They set out to grow an alternative, an architecture built on earned trust, to heal the world for their son. The technology imagined here is presented not as fantasy but as extrapolation. Readers with relevant expertise have noted, to the author's surprise, that underlying principles hold up.
