This book presents pieces of history from the early twentieth century when the emerging technology of automobiles met the archaic technology of tintypes. The pictures are from the author's collection of cars used as studio props at amusement parks, carnivals, and conventions. Mr. Caldwell presents his research of whenever possible the people identified in some of the tintypes, the types of cars identified, the locations where they were shot, and the studios. The aim is to try to uncover the chaotic history of early automobiles, the numerous steam, electric, and gasoline-powered cars from production line models to one-offs made in a tinkerer's garage, and how people interecated with the exciting new technology.
