Book Overview

As a successful former slave, Clara Brown used her money to help other freed slaves get a new start in life. In 1859 Clara bought her own freedom and headed west to Colorado to find her daughter, who was sold when she was just a little girl. Clara didn't find her daughter there, but she did get rich. The people she helped became her family, and she became known as "Aunt" Clara Brown.

My 2nd Grader Liked It

My second grader liked this book and was able to explain a lot about the Civil War and slavery in America after reading it. The book made Aunt Clara Brown's story come to life, and my child now looks up to her for her brave actions.

Aunt Clara Brown

Finished the book in two days. Super story, great reading, well written. A must for any American history buff.

Aunt Clara Brown

I found this biography of the pioneer, Clara Brown, to be an inspiring tale of courage, faith, and charity. It would be a wonderful tale to share with a young child, especially a young girl!
