AD367. Britannia is under simultaneous attack by Picts, Scotts and Saxons. The Roman army has been overrun. Aulus Aurelius, a Romano British farmer, whose life is still untouched by the invasion, inadvertently becomes embroiled with a century of soldiers from the scattered field army when one of their wagons breaks down on his farm. The century is commanded by the field army's chief centurion, Caius Martius. Soon it becomes apparent that they are on vital imperial business, and a target for all. Their mission must not fail . Their situation is desperate. Aulus is drawn in to help them and then to ride with them as they leave the farm and against all the odds make their bid for the sanctuary of Londinium.
