The chapter also presents examples of global and U.S. aulacogens, defines basin classification of an intracratonic basin according to the USGS. Chapter 2 begins the detailed descriptions of Proterozoic aulacogens which include the Midcontinental Rift, East Continental and Fort Wayne Rifts, and the New Madrid Seismic Zone (Reelfoot Rift).
