Aukhanov Bulat Gazizovich, internationally renowned choreographer, dancer, and founder of the State Theatre of Dance of Kazakhstan, records his remarkable life and journey to become the driving force for folkloric and classical ballet in this Central Asian nation. Brought up in Almaty, he attended the Leningrad Choreographic Academy where he was trained by U.I. Urnikhin, followed by further training in Moskow where he studied at the great R.V. Zakharov's workshop. While in Leningrad, he worked with the legendary Rudolf Nureyev, together with several other dancers who were later to gain world renown. Many of his pupils are now leading performers in the great ballet companies of the West, and his choreography has been acclaimed internationally.
