Audrey Wait! is a fun, well written and really enjoyable novel

This is the BEST book I have read in what seems like forever. I devoured almost all of it in about 3 hours and actually woke up in the middle of the night and seriously contemplated finishing it off (sadly, I fell back asleep while still considering the idea). Audrey, Wait! is all about how 16 year old Audrey breaks up with her wannabe rockstar boyfriend and he writes a song about their break up (called Audrey, Wait! nache) which becomes hugely successful and thrusts all-I-wanna-be-is-a-normal-16-year-old Audrey into a life of rock stars and paparazzi. The author, Robin Benway, does incredible things with dialogue which makes the writer in me beyond jealous. I laughed and giggled so many times while reading this book and really, it was the best time I've had reading in a really long time. Thank you Robin Benway! Audrey, Wait! is actually a young adult book, but don't let that stop you from picking it up if you're an adult because it is a seriously fun and enjoyable read. I heart Audrey!

15 minutes of shame

Whenever a couple breaks up, there are two sides to the story. Unfortunately for sixteen-year-old Audrey, her boyfriend put his side into a song which became a national hit. Audrey finds that she's suddenly become a huge pop sensation, with fans, critics, and people with agendas. I found this book to be a realistic portrayal of a teenage relationship opened up to scrutiny by people who shouldn't be involved. Audrey is overwhelmed, angry, and maybe just a little flattered. At times, the book is a little predictable (the reporter is going to quote her out of context, the sleazy rock star is not a gentleman) and unrealistic (famous or not, if a photographer sneaks into a high school to take pictures of underage girls, there'll be hell to pay), I thouroughly enjoyed it. Audrey is a charming character, and no one, not even her ex-boyfriend, was a stock character bad guy. For anyone who's had a bad breakup, just be glad it wasn't in the tabloids.

Fun and FULL of Energy!

In this terrific debut by Robin Benway, main character Audrey breaks up with her musician boyfriend...and becomes famous when he writes a song about her. I loved the premise of this YA novel before I even picked it up, and now that I've finished, it's the voice that I think I'll remember the most. Benway captures teen-talk beautifully, in all its hilarious, high-energy, high-drama glory. Audrey and her best friend Victoria seem talk so fast sometimes it makes my head spin, but that's what makes the personality and humor of this book shine through. It's funny, full of music, fast-paced, and a fabulously fun ride. Audrey, Wait! is not one of those YA novels I'd recommend for most middle school kids -- the characters are older, city-smart high school students, so their language and the situations they find themselves in reflect that. As a result, this is a better choice for older teens who love high-energy, fast-paced realistic fiction and music.

a MUST-READ!!

I just finished reading AUDREY, WAIT!, and I can honestly say that it was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time, with one of the most loveable characters. The main character, Audrey, dumps her boyfriend at the start of the novel -- and almost immediately is thrust into the world of fame when the ex writes a hit song about her. This book is so much fun for a lot of reasons -- number one, Audrey is hilarious. She's spunky and fun and cool. Number two, even though Audrey's situation is abnormal, Audrey's just your average girl, and is really easy to relate to. I quickly became attached to her character, and I literally read this book in one sitting. This is also a fun novel for music lovers. I would highly recommend AUDREY, WAIT! to anyone looking for a fun, funny read that's also well-written and has emotional depth.

The Compulsive Reader's Reviews

When Audrey made the decision to dump Evan, she never imagined that millions of people would soon know about it. But then Audrey, Wait!, the song Evan wrote about the break-up, is suddenly leaping up the charts, and making Evan's band wildly popular virtually overnight, Audrey has more attention than she can handle. Mobbed by reporters, fans, and fake friends, she can barely attend school, much less move on with her love life and start dating again. All anyone knows is what the paparazzi report. Now it's time for Audrey to take matters into her own hands. Audrey's story is laugh out loud funny and chocked full of her crazy, fun filled escapades. Audrey herself has a sardonically appealing wit about her that makes her an instant hit, and is honest, confident, and yet still quite human. Her thoughts and vivid wording are what make that connection between the protagonist and reader. Though the book is lengthy, the plot moves at a brisk pace, and each chapter is preceded by sing lyrics from a wide variety of artists throughout the ages. This is a hilarious, wise, and immensely inviting read that anyone would be willing to rock out to. Visit http://thecompulsivereader.blogspot.com/ for more reviews and contests!
