Growing up in the Columbia River Gorge during the mid-1900s

This is a great little book about life in the Columbia River Gorge during the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. The author tells of some funny stories of stuff that happened to him as a child, teenager and adult as he hitchhiked, hopped freight trains, drove and flew through the Columbia River Gorge at different times throughout his life. I thought it was a well-written, funny snapshot of life in a small town in such an amazing part of the country. Although the photos aren't fabulous by today's standards, I plan to show people this book to help them get a feel for what the gorge is like. I bought it at the Vista Point gift shop at the start of a week hiking the Multnomah Falls area of the Columbia River Gorge. I started reading it in the airport while waiting for my flight home and continued reading it on the plane ride. I couldn't put it down. I definately recommend this book. I can't wait to go back so I can explore some of the places mentioned in this book.
