Granger, Grange, Mitchell was a careful young man; he'd managed to get a good start on engineering in high school and had scored a full tuition scholarship at Purdue; unfortunately, the scholarship ran out of funds when he was a sophomore. He finished his second year with good grades but he didn't have the funds to start his third year. He decided he couldn't ask his parents to fund his degree; he would have to go to work to earn those funds. At 20, he was lucky enough to find a jeweler in California who needed his skills; she was a distant aunt. She would pay him to cast silver, gold and bronze pendants, earrings and bracelets. She owned a small 'mother-in-law' apartment above her shop; that would let him save his rent! He wasn't sure how the money would work out, but it was likely he could save enough to pay his tuition, maybe at USC or UCLA!
