Personal struggle

This book is an excellent reading to gain a better understanding of the personal and societal struggles of persons of jewish decent in the turbulent times of the 19th century. While the book does deal with this in a broad and general sense it also allows the reader to feel what the narrator is feeling. It is very entertaining with its humerous irony and exciting plot line and the beauty of its poetic language. Written in the first person, this narrator's trials and tribulations seem so real, so poetic and allow us to rejoice in his advances and feel the sorrow of his struggles. It truly is a significant work, one of the masterpieces of poetry that tell a fascinating tale of a man coming to terms with essentially himself and his place in society. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone.
