A wonderful resource

I am in the process of reading this book and I love it. Frank Joseph has completed an extensive amount of research in order to create a comparison of ancient legends.

Atlantis and Lemuria redux?

With ATLANTIS AND OTHER LOST WORLDS author Frank Joseph has added another tome to his already extensive bookshelf on these subjects. Begining with a self published version of The Destruction of Atlantis roughly 20 years ago he may now be the most published writer dealing with Plato's lost island and it's Pacific equivalent Lemuria or Mu.This book parallels his earlier one on Atlantis and Lemuria save that it doesn't focus upon the Edgar Cayce angle as that one did. It's also a more attractive graphic package. It has the look and feel of a 'coffee table book' but the text has more substance than is usual in that format. For those interested in pictures it offers a fine array of photos and decorative renderings. Thus it can be enjoyed solely on that level. One needn't be a dyed in the wool Atlantist to appreciate it, But for anyone familiar with the subject Joseph gives a wealth of information, updating and summarising his previous books on Atlantis and Lemuria and placing it all in one volume. Some readers, used to myriad New age books on the subject and not familiar with Joseph's previous books might be surprised at his take on it.He believes that Plato's dates and scale became exaggerated in translation and transmission to us but does not subscribe to the Minoan Atlantis theory usually associated with such a reduction. He keeps Atlantis in the Atlantic where Plato said it was but places it into the context of the Late Bronze age which seems to fit the descriptions in the dialogues. In other words his Atlantis flourished between 5000 and 3200 years ago not 11,600 years ago during the Paleolithic. Some will nodd with approval as Joesph presents his case but others may not find it satisfying.I did, personally but I must admit to a bias towards the concept of a Bronze age Atlantis. Other Atlantis enthusiasts may balk at alterring Plato's numbers and many are more drawn to the visions of Edgar Cayce than to Plato. This book might not be the taste of the latter group. Lemuria is similarly reduced in age to the Neolithic and Bronze ages and interpretted as a widespread seafaring culture that suffered through catastrophies rather than a single submerged continent. Joseph does suggest the possibilty that his Atlantis near Gibralter might've been settled by Lemurians 4000-6000 years ago or possibly 'Posiedians' from the now submerged Bahamas plateau as described by Cayce. But evidence from sea levels indicates that plateau was not finally submerged until between 4000 and 2800 BC the same era Egypt and Sumer rose.Of the two theories the Posiedians were closer and thier name could easilly be euhemrised as the god Posiedon. Lemuria seems a long distance away and different in character. Critics of lost continent theories, catastrophism and cultural diffusion will no doubt dismiss this book. But then they are not it's intended audience and would doubtless not be interested in it anyway. Yet, for those fascinated by myth, lost lands and ancient mysteries it
