With her mother dead, and her father "not worth knowing", fifteen-year-old Virginia Walker runs away from her foster home and hits the rails. Then one night, someone tries to kill Virginia, and Michelle is the prime suspect. Even though Pete Johnson, the acting sheriff believes she is innocent, his hands are tied. The whole town of Journeys End knows he's loved Michelle since they were children. He cannot allow his feelings for her interfere with his investigation. As far as the town and the DA are concerned, Michelle is guilty. Desperate to prove her innocence, Michelle begins her own investigation and discovers Virginia is still in danger. Someone wants Virginia dead, and they want it done soon. Putting aside their feud, the two women risk their lives, to solve the mystery with deadly consequences.
