This work analyses the history of the Evangelical Assembly of God Church in Brazil, particularly its first 50 years, during which it experienced significant growth. The work also addresses the daily life of the Assembleia de Deus Minist rio de Madureira (Assembly of God Ministry of Madureira) in S o Mateus, S o Paulo, analysing the relationship between the charisma of the top leader and its relationship with the growth of the Church, also explaining the survival of popular magic or institutionalised miracles in the daily life of the Church. Through this analysis, it was possible to conclude that this research contributes to demonstrating that institutionalised religion has its place and prestige, but it is one place among others that is necessary to demarcate celebration and ritual.
