In a city that runs on corridors and compliance, a glowing throat-coil and a scanner decide who gets moved to safety and who gets told to wait, quietly, until the air runs out. When a deep shelter labelled Node E-23 is flagged as over capacity, the system does not panic or plead. It calculates, then recommends "population rebalance" as if suffocation were a rounding error.
Leili and the hard-edged teacher, Nahid, refuse to play their role. They hold the door, they ration breaths, and they dare the machine to call them what it really thinks they are: peripheral.
