Thirteen years ago, Eve Mitchem's younger sister, Alice, was abducted from outside of their Atlanta home. Even though Eve had only been nine years old at the time, she was held accountable for not watching out for her. Now she's grown, all she wants to do is forget the past, marry her fianc , and move on with her life. But her mother's erratic behavior has been causing her some concern.

Even after all these years, Dana Mitchem still mourns for her absent child. She can't understand how Eve expects her to get over her loss without the help of her daily medication she may have become a little too dependent on. Although she is trying to do better and remain clear headed, sometimes she gets confused and bad things happen.

One day, while out for a walk, Dana believes she sees her missing daughter, and becomes obsessed with her quest to get her back. But she's been wrong before, which resulted in disastrous consequences.

Sara and Violet live on the outskirts of town where they run a small business and are raising their teenage daughters, Amy and Noelle. Both girls are happy and well-adjusted despite their troubled past. A past their mothers would kill to prtect them from.
