ARTIVIST (n) an artistic activist. Fiercely creative from a young age, Micaela Mead always wanted to be an artist. But she also wanted to help people... to have a positive impact... and correspondingly spent a lot of time and energy trying (and failing) to reconcile those two seemingly divergent interests. Fed up with "playing by the rules", and propelled by overwhelming frustration with the state of society in late 2017, she decided she could no longer ignore the calling to own the power in her personal perspectives and aspirations, and so set out to forge a new path. Her artistic manifesto is essentially based on the idea of saying "No, don't pick. Don't choose. You CAN do both. You can make art, be creative, AND create meaning / have impact. You can, quite simply," she asserts in different ways, "be a rebel WITH a cause." But the book also rings with encouragement insisting you don't need to have all the answers to make big decisions or to try something new. You can create change, for yourself and others, simply by loving louder and daring to live boldly. Composed of both poems and prose, along with an assortment of original illustrations, ARTIVISTIC is a unique and genre-defying call to action.
