Very practical and useful

I first read this book some years ago. Many of its principals are so native to my thinking now as an artist that sometimes I forget that others don't know these things. I find myself explaining stuff to them which I take for granted now as obvious ways of approaching how art is communicated. In doing so, they look at me with an expression of, "Yes! I noticed that too!" or the opposite of, "Oh yeah! Why didn't that occur to me before?" I especially love the fact that this information is so applicable to all types of art. I have applied it to drawing, music, filmmaking and writing with equal success. Not to gush too much, but without this material, I was just not as effective. Before, art was directionless and mysterious in not a good way.

A book about aesthetics that works for every art form

This book solved all of my confusions about the subject of art and aesthetics. When I started to apply the principles described in this book, my own artistic efforts finally started to get results. Since then I've used that data in this book to write and publish 3 books of my own! I have also used these same fundamental observations about aesthetics to create dozens of websites. My eternal thanks to L. Ron Hubbard for giving me an understanding of art that helped me become a successful artist for the first time.

It takes away the complexity without taking away the beauty

Art is often presented as complex or only to be understood by some special elite. There also seems to be quite a lot of "art" that to me has simply gained popularity on an "emperor's new clothes" basis, so this book came as a welcome surprise. It makes art approachable and attainable and we're not just talking about painting here: Hubbard was a very successful writer as well as a poet, composer, musician and designer, so the book deals with the very basics of all art forms.One of the main things I liked about the book was the fact that it is very practical. You not only can apply it in painting a picture but also in what clothes to wear today. As Hubbard says in the book you can make living itself into an art form.

Incredible--the basics of all Art, and how to live it!

This was one of the most fulfilling books I have ever read as an artist. I discovered the breadth of the field as it applies to my life, not just my music. With these basics I see that I can go anywhere with any field of art.

This had stuff I'd been looking for for years!

As a struggling artist, I always wanted to know what the "secret" was to being really great. When I read this book, it made the whole subject of art and aesthtics totally clear - not mystical or mysterious at all! I find that I have used lots of things I read about in this book as I write. I'm more certain about what I'm doing and more confident that what I was doing was right all along.This book is fascinating if you are REALLY an artist, interested in performing at the top of your form. I loved it
