bias to the past?

I like this book, and I gather the coverage of the first vogue covers is quite more artistic or interesting tham the most recent ones; I do not know whether this is because the ancient and former photographers were more art oriented (or skillfull) than the contemporary ones (of course Helmutt is Helmutt) or perhaps because the authors wanted to depict a brighter past (till the 60's) than contemporary,etc
