Art as Technologies of the Self crosses disciplinary boundaries to connect the technological experiences that shape our external world with the technologies of the self that constitute our inner lives. Framed by the metaphor of "pharmakon" - both remedy and poison - the book traces the origins of technē and examines both outward- and inward-oriented technologies, presenting art as a technology of the self. It explores hermeneutic approaches to self-technology through aesthetics and play, and analyzes artistic "formulas" such as site, landscape, photography, and sculpture.
