This supplement is the first in a planned series of updates to the Art and Architecture Thesaurus, published in three volumes in 1990. Intended for use in conjunction with the main work, the supplement reports changes in four main categories: terminology, hierarchy structure, additions to the bibliography of sources, and changes in application guidelines. The bulk of the supplement is devoted to new and changed terms. This information is presented in three ways: an overall alphabetical listing that contains all the changes and provides specific information about each change; a section that provides both the original and revised form (e.g. "load-bearing walls" changed to "bearing walls") for changed descriptors, guide terms, and lead-in terms; and a summary that provides an overview of the major term changes grouped according to the type of change. This supplement provides an important update to the evolving terminology in the world of art and architecture.
